- “What Happened To” – The Penn Central Railroad?
During 1968 the New York Central RR and the Pennsylvania RR merged. This merger created the largest railroad in America…known as Penn Central, after merger.
If its' owned fleet of cars and locomotives were coupled end to end, this fleet would stretch from NYC to Laramie, Wyoming. Its' tracks would stretch all the way around the world.
On June 21, 1970 the mighty Penn Central RR filed for bankruptcy under Section 77 of the Federal Bankruptcy code.
